Whisking Katie away, the disgruntled wife attempted to asphyxiate her niece, all the while knowing that Katie was asthmatic. After learning of Katie's molestation at the hands of Richard, Susan irrationally frames Katie as the party responsible for her failing marriage. The unsubs are revealed to be Richard and Susan Jacobs, Katie's uncle and aunt. The episode does a fantastic job of dispelling myths around sexual abuse while raising awareness of the dangers of internalized misogyny. What starts as a common, yet frantic search for Katie soon progresses into a dark hour of unearthing harrowing secrets about those close to Katie. After their daughter, Katie, goes missing, Paul and Beth Jacobs rely on the BAU to help discover their daughter's whereabouts before they are too late. "Seven Seconds" plays on the sadly contemporary fears of parents in public with their children. "Risky Business" highlights the carelessness that Will carries into his profession, arriving at the scenes of the crimes he committed and collecting trophies after his victims are announced dead. Once the agents learn of his discretion, they race against time to apprehend WIll before he murders his son Chris. Poisoning Cynthia, Will routinely brought her to the doctors until she passes away after unknowingly consuming a fatal amount of the poison. He was unmasked as the proxy murderer of the Wyoming teenagers, as well as the murder of his wife Cynthia. Summers not only experimented with the lives of his victims but also his family members. Viewers come to learn that the suicides were all part of a vile project conducted by EMT Will Summers. After reports of a popular, online trend prompting teenagers to commit suicide, the BAU head to rural Wyoming to peel off the veneer of the seemingly nonsensical phenomenon to reveal a much more unsettling explanation for these disturbing deaths. However, these casting changes had a clear effect on the quality of the season, and the loss of Cook and Brewster posed a nearly insurmountable challenge for the show's writers to overcome."Risky Business" taps into the hysteria of social media's exponential popularity. It's an exciting plotline made all the more interesting when we learn that JJ knew the whole time that Prentiss was still alive, and we're glad Prentiss was able to come back the following season. At the end of Season 6, Prentiss fakes her death to escape Ian Doyle. Thankfully, some interesting arcs help prop these episodes up. The idea that "Criminal Minds" could replace JJ with another woman was the biggest mistake of the season, and it was a decision that continued to reverberate for many seasons. Fans were not happy with this replacement, however, and Nichols was let go after only one season. Sure enough, producers brought on newcomer Ashley Seaver (Rachel Nichols) to replace JJ. It's not a bad way to do a finale, but it does make one wonder what the season would have been like had CBS ordered more than 15 episodes.īrewster told the AV Club that she felt they were fired because executives wanted new women on the series to keep it fresh. Interestingly enough, Season 14 actually ends on a rather joyful note, with Rossi (Joe Mantegna) remarrying his ex-wife Krystall (Gail O'Grady). The problem with this season is mainly that you can tell why the show is doing this, rather than it feeling like a natural progression of the story. It makes sense for a show with over a dozen seasons under its belt to start looking backward, and these episodes aren't unwelcome in a series that can sometimes breeze past all of the terrible things the agents have endured. One mid-season episode also delves into Emily's past with a case related to one they worked on many years ago, leading to, once again, even more flashbacks. We also learn more about some of our team members, especially JJ, who, in one of the best episodes of the season, revisits the trauma of her sister's suicide while working on a case. The season begins with Garcia once again traumatized (it's no wonder she left the BAU in Season 15) in the wake of a kidnapping.
